About contour gauge

A contour gauge is a tool used for tracing and transferring the exact shape of an object onto another material. It consists of a series of thin, movable pins or teeth that conform to the contours of the object being measured. How to use contour gauges

First, press the shape gauge up against the piece people need to duplicate. Double-check the placement, and if people are not happy with it, repeat until they are satisfied with the placement. Then, place the gauge up against the edge of the workpiece, check the placement to make sure it's flush and square, and trace its outline with a permanent marker. Then, cut out the outline in the material with a saw or knife, as appropriate.
